I recently had a cooker hood installed, but it has not been connected to any external ventilation. A hole was cut in the cabinet above the hood, however I am not sure whether this hole actually leads to a proper ventilation duct. At the moment, the hood appears not to be venting externally. I would like a qualified kitchen fitter / ventilation specialist to: • Inspect the current installation • Confirm whether external ventilation exists • Check whether the hood supports internal (recirculating) mode • Advise on the best solution (external ducting if possible, or conversion to internal filtration) • Provide a quote to properly complete or correct the installation The property is an apartment in Dublin. I am looking for someone experienced with cooker hood installations and ventilation systems.

Try to read the brand namr and model of your cookerhood to check if we can find spare carbon filter or not or does it supports recirculation mode with carbon filters if we buy extra
Thats a normal ceiling with glaswool insulation inside a studded frame with plasterboard over....i can install a recircuulation mode one but recirculation mode dont work 100%>>>if u cook something that smells too much..then recirculation one will filter it 60-70% only i beleive
@Alan S. Hi Alan, Thanks for the reply I’ve uploaded some more photos with the flash on to give you a better look inside. I should mention that the wall behind the hood likely leads to the common building lobby, so we likely can’t drill through it. If we find there is no existing vent in the ceiling, are you able to either convert this unit to use carbon filters or replace it with a recirculating hood? It’s important to me that the existing cabinetry isn't damaged or altered in the process
@Deepak A. Hi Deepak, I’ve added new photos using the flash. I can see some yellow insulation (glass wool) leading into the ceiling—does that look like a standard setup for a vent to you? Also, just to confirm: the wall behind the hood leads to a common lobby, so I don't think we can core drill there. If it turns out there is no vent access, are you able to convert this hood to recirculation mode with carbon filters, or install a new recirculating model while ensuring my current cabinetry remains exactly as it is?
Got you....the old extractor fan pic also dont clearly tell if it was vented out or not......if u put your hand inside the hole in ceiling and try to touch and find if there is any flexible hose inside left near the hole....if there is flexible hose u can find then we can do something....or put your****** with lights on in the cieling hole and take 4-5 pictures in all direction
Hi granted that's the wall is a gable or outside wall I would be able to drill out hole to vent from, then connect a duct (hose) from your extractor to your vent to it successfully vents to the out side. Please see my new quote which is a call out charge. Once I can confirm that the job is possible we can agree on a price and work can be completed hopefully the same day
@Alan S. Hi Alan Can you explain what do you mean by core drilling? Can you confirm where to drill before you start? If a vent isn't acceciable (a handyman previously tried to connect and told me the hole lead to nowhere, though he is not an expert) are you able to convert the hood to internal recirculation? In addition, I have added some new photos, one showing inside the hole, and also a an image of the kitchen perior to the renovation so you see how the previous hood was connected.
@Deepak A. It is a renovated apartment, not a new build. Filters: The hood did not come with carbon filters; I only have the unit itself. The fitter don't asnwer my calls and didn't provide any information. The Layout & Walls: The wall where the hood is installed is not shared with another apartment; I believe it leads to the common lobby area. There are no walls to the left or right that open directly onto a balcony. The Existing Setup: I suspect the current vent/hole goes into the ceiling, but I’m not 100% sure. I have added new photos that can help you assess things: Before/After: To show how the previous hood was connected. Wide Shot: To show the adjoining walls as requested. Internal Hole: A close-up inside the current opening to help you see the structure. Hope this helps.
Is it a new apartment? Did the cookerhood came with carbon filters to convert it to recirculation mode? Can u share the pic of full kitchen from far ...to see the adjoining walls ... The wall on which cooker hood is installed is shared with neighbour or its open other side? Is there any wall left or right when u face the cooker hood that opens in balcony? Share some pics...i can sort u out.... We need to drill a hole in the concrete block via the plasterboard and insulation...thats called core drilling

@FATIH I. Thanks Faith If this hole won't give you access to a vent. What can be done?
Hi Zach Sorry for later reply. My hope would be to get a connection from the hood to a vent...hoping there is a vent there and if there isn't we will look at core drilling a hole to vent out from
@Alan S. Hi Alan Thanks for the offer, can give an idea of how you suggest to fix the issue? Will you convert the current hood, do I need a full replacement? Will you seal the hole, etc.
Yeah I have experience with woodwork/cabinets. We do sealing.
@Deepak A. Second Floor.
@FATIH I. Thanks! Do you also have experience with woodworking? For instance, In case I need seal the hole in the cabinet if it turns out its not connected to the ventilation.
Which floor is the apartment?
